Le Cottage Français Magique

Version 1.0

Around April 2019. The key innovation of the first version were the twin-hinged roofs, an idea that I got from this couple:

Popup 1

The hinges allowed more vertical space in the bedroom and the office while still allowing the roof to get under bridges while traveling.

This design also included a fold-away stair to get to the office.

Version 2.0

May 29, 2019. But what if we just lifted the middle roof area, my friend Bobby asked? Sure, it would present other problems but I was already willing to assemble on-site. A little more assembly wouldn't hurt and the benefits were many:

  • I could use the gangway idea from this couple's home in New Zealand (almost 18 million views in just 3 months!):

  • With the gangway, I could take out the extra stairway.
  • I also get more kitchen cabinets.
  • It opens up the main space tremendously.

Version 3.0

July 2, 2019. In this version, the roof is now higher and the windows are placed properly. The height of the second floor was still too low. The consequence of raising the roof is that the roof side panels are going to be larger and to make them transportable will require they be split in half.

Highway Transport

With the full second floor, transporting the house on the highway means disassembling it. The idea to keep the rain out is to make a lid out of plastic that then becomes the patio.
